I wanted to talk about the GREAT SCORE I had in my mailbox yesterday. The 2 magazines Family Circle and All You, were free subscriptions links that I had found back in December. I also recieved my coupon for FREE OREOS!!!!!!!!!! Remember the promotional where if Colts won their game, if you were signed up you recieved free oreos????? I also recieved coupons for Gold Bond hand sanitizer along with free samples. (I have tried this and it is like lotion instead of drying like regular sanitizers) Next on the coupon haul, I recieved Yet another International Delights FREE creamer coupon. I am loving this creamer now (This is my 3rd FREE coupon!!! I also recieve coupon booklets for a variety of different items. Below is a link to the Proctor and Gamble coupon booklet. SCORE!!!!!!!!!

Okay, first off, confession time: I went over budget this week. I know that Dave Ramsey would not be happy with me right now and I remorseful for this overage.

 I am sad about it but since it was filled with great deals I am still okay....Other than that minor blip, I had a blast today!!!!! Several of you were out today SCORING some major DEALS!!!!! A big WOOT WOOT goes out to my peep Tammy!!!!! She saved about 80 dollars today with her deals at Walgreens and Staples.... WAY TO GO TAMMY!!!!!!!!

Kmart--- I was overwhelmingly dissappointed in my visit to Kmart. First off their prices are very high, so that even with their coupons and manuf. coupons, you still aren't getting THAT great of a deal....

As you well know, I am NOT a big fan of Walmart and even more so since couponing....The only place I have had any trouble has been at Walmart. Here is a link to Walmart's coupon policy, which would be a good thing to WHIP OUT on them if they want to give you grief!!! SERIOUSLY, they ought to be applauding my efforts at trying to save a dollar instead of wanting controversy. I mean, c'mon its not like my savings is coming out of their pocket!!!!!  Okay, I am better now....moving on......

Walmart seems to have some good deals this week, so I didn't want to leave them out for all of you!!! I am currently sticking with my fab 4 (Walgreen's, Rite Aid, Food Lion, and Phillip's) HOWEVER; I may have to venture to ole KMART since I got the FAB coupon book!!! We will just wait and see!!!!!

Step 6: Rebates (Some) Are your friends too!!!

I hope most of you all are enjoying the beautiful snow day today!!!! Although we didn't get the snow that was forecast, we did get enough to SCORE a SNOW DAY!!!!!! YAY!!!!! The kids enjoyed going out and playing in the 1 to 1 and a 1/2 we had in our yard.

Now on to step 6 in our weekly series: Rebates (Some) are your friends too!!!!

First thing I want to say, is that haven't got this step entirely down yet. I am still working on making this work for me, but I wanted to mention it for those of you who are working on reducing your spending.

Rite Aid has some of the best rebate deals around. You buy stuff all month that have rebates, come home and enter them online, and then at the end of the month, recieve one big check for all of your rebates. The way this gets to be an awesome SCORE is that some of the items go on sale, plus you use a coupon and then you get a rebate for more than you paid!!!!!

Ex.  Last month Prell Shampoo
went on sale for 99 cents but the rebate was for 2 dollars. So I actually made 1 dollar just for buying the shampoo!!!!

Rite Aid has a monthly flyer in their stores that shows you the items that have rebates. I thoroughly recommend using this!!!!

I am waiting on my December check so I will let you know how long it takes, but my plan is to take that money and rolling that over into my "Grocery" envelope and using it to hopefully SCORE more deals!!!!

Step 5: Stockpiling!!!!!

Welcome to the next step in our 12 step program to reducing our spending!!!!! I know that at this point you may think that I am going overboard and really I think I am, but at least this time it is something constructive. (or as Madea would say "Thats construction right there!!!") Actually I am still getting to shop and have my  "retail therapy" I am just making it trickier by adding in the coupons!!!

I do want to tell you that it still is a daily difficulty to stick to the budget I have set for myself,  but I made it one of my NEW YEAR'S RESOLUTIONS and am determined to stick with it!!! $40.00 is my weekly spending allowance!!!! I know that doesn't seem like too much, but with coupons I been able to do it for about 5 weeks now!!!

It does take up some time and effort to keep up with the deals and what is NOT a deal but let's look at it this way: Before taking this on, I was thinking about taking on a second job. I now have one; couponing and deal hunting!!!!

Which brings me to my next step, STOCKPILING!!!!!!

LOOK what 40 dollars can buy!!!!!

Okay, first of all I didn't buy this all at once; but all of these do total up to 40 dollars!!!

This is my stockpile that I have started of the SCORES from the last month!!! I hope to continue to build my stockpile as I continue finding great SCORES!!!!

  Why stockpile? Well its important to stock-up when something is on sale, because it removes those items from your weekly shopping list. That gives you more cash to buy those necessary items that aren't normally on sale. (ex. bread, milk, meat, produce)

  When to stockpile? You need to have a rockbottom price in your mind for items. When you can find items at their rockbottom prices then, you stockpile as much as you can (Just don't go overboard!!!) Here is a list of a few of my rockbottom prices that cause me to stockpile.

  Toilet Paper = .40 per roll
  
  
  
• 
  
  Paper Towels = .50 per roll
  
  
  
• 
  
  Tissue = .50 per box
  
  
  
• 
  
  Toothpaste = .75- 1.00 per tube

  Shampoo = .75 .99 or less per bottle (although I did pay 1.50 for Head and Shoulders but it is usually much higher)

  What to stockpile? Anything that doesn't spoil, expire, you have room for, and that you WILL use. (I mean who needs 30 cans of evaporated milk anyway?)   :)

  How much to stockpile? Well, again, this will depend on what you have the room for.  A good rule of thumb is about a years worth.
  
  
  

One final note about stockpiling. You don't have to go overboard with the stockpiling. It is just a nice thing to have and will help lower your grocery bill in the long run!

School starts back tomorrow, so we will see if I can still juggle blogging and working at the same time!!!!!

**** UPDATE***** I just got my Sunday paper (Glasgow Daily Times) and it DID NOT HAVE 5 inserts, there were just 2!!!!!! I wonder if I got the Courier Journal or Lexington Herald Leader, would they have more????? I may check on that and let you all know!!!!

Phillip's IGA in Hiseville, Ky Weekly Ad 12/29- 1/5

If you live near Hiseville, you need to check out Phillip's Market. First of all they are the only place I will buy my meat because of the good quality, secondly are their great deals!! Add in some coupons and you have a GREAT SCORE!!!!!! My last shopping trip for the week, there was only 23.00 and I had a cart load of food!!!! Check Them OUT  HERE!!!!!!!

Part 4: Not going overboard/Setting spending limits

We are really moving along with our 12 step program!!!! It’s a New Year as well, so take the time out to get your finances organized so you can start the year off right!!!!! Yeah, well on to our Part 4: Not going overboard/Setting spending limits.

NOT GOING OVERBOARD!!!!!

Once I started couponing, I was clipping every coupon and printing out oodles of printable coupons. Then I felt like if I had a coupon for it, I was getting it!!!!! I was constantly on the computer trying to find the best deal…..THIS IS NOT A GOOD WAY TO SAVE!!!

• Allow yourself to research and print coupons around twice a week. Make it part of your daily routine to check through and print out coupons you need.

• Remember that you don’t have to snag EVERY deal!!!! I have bought a few things dirt cheap, only to realize later, that I have no need for it. Don’t let yourself get so stressed at finding the best deal! If you miss a deal, chances are that they will come back around again. (Sales move in cycles, depending on the season) Going back to a store over and over again in the same week just get another deal that you missed before is not going to save you time or money!!!!!

• Going overboard will cause burn out!!!! Allow yourself to splurge (within reason) occasionally for something that you do NOT have a coupon for. It is okay!!!! In the long run, you are still saving money!!!!

• Don’t feel like you HAVE to be an extreme coupon user. If binders, and internet blog hopping isn’t your thing, tailor the couponing to fit you!!!! As long as you are making a conscience effort to reduce your spending, it doesn’t matter how many coupons you download from the internet! (Trust me, I am still working on that one!!!)

• Stay focused on why you are couponing. If your like me, you have too much month at the end of the money and need a way to help stretch it!!!! This helps to remind you that your goal is to save money, not spend it ALL on getting the BEST deals. If your spending the same amount as before (but getting TONS of GREAT deals) You still aren’t saving money……

SET SPENDING LIMITS!!!!!

Okay, even though we are adults, we still need boundries to keep us in check just like we do for our kids. One way to keep you from going overboard, is to set a spending limit.

• Use cash ONLY when shopping. Using a debit or credit card is just too easy. Using cash often makes people think twice aobut what they are purchasing which will help to reduce costs.

• Budget out how much you can spend on groceries for a week, and then only take that amount with you to the store(s). Focus on the have to Buy items first (such as milk, eggs, butter, oj, bread) Then with the leftover amount, you can work your magic at scoring the deals!!!!

• DO NOT BORROW from next weeks allowance f or this week, EVER!!!! This will cause a snowball effect that will compound until you become overwhelmed and AGAIN will defeat the purpose of couponing. When your money for this week is gone, YOU ARE DONE; no ifs, ands or buts about it!!!

Keep reminding yourself that deals always come back around so if you miss one, you will hit the next one!!!
